God made man in his own image and let us have dominion power over the fish of the sea, over the fowl of the air, over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” We can see that God created human beings and immediately gave them complete “dominion” or “rule” over all the rest of creation.
The word “power” in the New Testament could mean at least a couple of different things.
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God”
Nevertheless, God made man and placed him with dominion power over and above the rest of creation. The authority that man has over these things comes from God.The father has been given authority over every other member of that family, just as God has given the father authority over the wife and children like a mother who may be given authority over her own children.
“There is no dominion power but of God.” If the powers that be are ordained of men, they may be used according to the pleasure of men. It is merely a conflict between this form of self-will and that; between a despotism that exists and a despotism that is struggling to exist.
If the powers that be are ordained of God it must be designed to accomplish the good pleasure of God. God made man and as Christians we have to learn that we are bound to give up our-self with all power and all our might to be a living sacrifice to Him who redeemed us to do His will with all our soul and strength.
We conclude that when a ruler commands in violation of God’s Laws, we have an obligation to obey them for at least in that specific instance.
