Did Jesus had a divine nature? How could he say that he did not know the day and hour of a future event?
Some say that the verb “Knows” means is similar to “make” known or to reveal. That the passage means, “That day and hour none makes known, neither the angels, nor the Son, but the Father.
But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
The Son of God as one Person possessed of two natures. As a man was able to draw upon the attributes inherent in His divine nature. when it was the will of the Father. Although he only did what was allowed by his Father.
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, and left his house , gave authority to his servants. Each his work and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
One of the events, the destruction of Jerusalem, seems to be an event that the disciples would know is near. Just like one can know that summer is near by the fig tree putting forth leaves, the disciples could notice the signs Jesus spoke of and know that the destruction of Jerusalem is near. Then Jesus speaks of “that Day”, a day in which no one will know the day or the hour. They will not be able to know that destruction is coming in that same way that Sodom and Gomorrah didn’t know that destruction was coming.
No one can predict His second coming despite what many false prophets.
Again, Jesus is saying, “You do not know when that time will come”
What greater a warning could Jesus give than, “Be on guard!” Jesus said it is like a “man going away”, which is symbolic of His ascent into heaven after Calvary.
