Oh, GOD! Why me! Almost all of us have gone through difficult paths in our lives. Many times we ponder why GOD permits bad, and sometimes worse, things to happen in our lives.
I personally feel, GOD allows trials and tribulations in our lives because of the following reasons:
- To bring us closer to Him
During difficult times of our lives, we tend to rely more on GOD than any other earthly things. We pray more sincerely, even though we forget to pray during other days. Sometimes, GOD closes all possible doors on earth to reveal that help comes only through Him. We could see God’s grace when He brings us out of the storms in our lives. Trials help to surrender ourselves completely to Him.
- To purify us from our impurities
Malachi 3: 3, says “And he shall sit [as] a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi…”
I came across the story of the silversmith many days ago, which inspired me. The silversmith holds the piece of silver in the hottest area of the furnace until all the impurities are burnt off. The silversmith knows whether the silver is pure when he could see his own reflection in it.
GOD is metaphorized as the silversmith. We feel we are in unbearable situations, but GOD is trying to refine us. He is trying to remove unwanted habits, anger, etc. from our lives — just like impurities are being removed from silver while being burnt. When our impurities are removed, God’s nature is reflected from us.
- Identify the people around us
People, who were with us during the good times of our lives, disappear during the bad times. Hardships reveal the true nature of people surrounding us. It is actually a blessing in disguise.
Trials and tribulations not only makes us strong, but also strengthens our relationship with GOD. Always remember, GOD does not permit trials beyond what we could bear (1 Corinthians 10 : 13). He expects us to totally surrender ourselves to Him.
