1 Peter 2:17
“Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”
It’s much more difficult to respect those we dislike, those we disagree with and those we disapprove of. God calls all believers to respect those based on who he is, not who they are or aren’t. Show them honor. Show them respect. Even, if they do not respect you. Honor all people; that is how to treat people in a Christian way.
“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created Him; male and female He created them.”
So respecting others means I’m accepting the created value bestowed on all people as God’s image. God has authority over all people, even those who don’t honor His name. Respect is not an option but a Christian mandate that ultimately reveals our understanding of God.
To profess, Christ were rounded up, locked up, crucified, Jesus rose from the dead and will also raise you from the dead. Jesus spirit in you is greater. All scripture reminders us that God’s people and every authority, on earth and in heaven, is subordinate to the King of kings.
1 Peter 2:13
“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority”.
There is no darkness that the light of God’s word can’t permeate. Obey every man-made authority for the Lord’s sake.
Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Referring to human beings in positions of authority. Scripture for Christian reflection on political authority, God has established these temporary systems in order to prop up this fallen humanity bent on self-destruction. Take heart and remember Jesus. His will is being done through his people, his beloved church because it is especially strong, faithful, courageous, and wise.
