The blessings of God are spiritual and physical and it should never to be taken for granted. People under Moses leadership thought of the blessings God has promised to them if they would continue to obey Him faithfully; He had promised them “if you will diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments…” blessings shall come upon them and overtake them.
“22 And the Lord speaks unto Moses, saying, 23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, 24 The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: 25 The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26 The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
Jesus blessings for us today emphasize the spiritual rather than the physical help. His sacrifice on the cross had to do with restoring us to spiritual life. Therefore, we are asking the Lord to extend a whole range of good things upon a person when we speak blessing on them. Blessing is the act of declaring God’s favor and goodness upon others. Throughout the Bible, we see that blessing is not only the good effect of words.
1 John 5:14-15
“14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
The apostle John said that when we pray according to His will, a blessing is a type of prayer; we can be sure that the Lord hears us and will give us what we’ve asked for.
Physical blessings are fragile and subject to decay and loss. We seek God’s protection, so that once given, His blessing will not fade away. Hence, the Lord’s blessings require His protection.
Basic idea of protection from “God the Father” exercises this care over us by keeping us from evil, by helping us avoid spiritual and physical harm. God daily and abundantly provides all the necessities and nourishment for this body and life. God protects us against all danger and shields, preserves us from all evil.
For all of this we owe it to God; to thank, praise, serve and obey him.
