You couldn’t choose your parents, Honour them. But they didn’t choose you either. God gave you to them. The only exception is those who were adopted. Either way, no children are here by accident and all really were chosen by God, just as He adopts us into His family.
“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”
First of all, concept of God for a child they get from their parents. But may we never forget that the primary responsibility for our kid’s spiritual development lies within our own home. No man is a failure who teaches his children to follow God and Honour. You may not be able to buy them expensive toys. You may not be able to get them their first car or the best clothes, but you can give them the most important gift and it’s free! The world looked at Noah like he was a failure, but when it all came down; his family was alive on the ark. No man is a failure who teaches his children to follow God.
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Parents are to lovingly care for their children and love their children, raising them in the ways of the Lord. In turn the children will loving care for their parents and love them by helping them until they die. The command to honor our parents will not be easy because parents are human and sinful.
Similarly, God says the evil must be purged from their midst. God is saying that if you want to stay in a blessed relationship with God and remain in the Promised Land. You must raise your children to honor, respect and obey you.
Children will not learn obedience to God and respect God without first obeying and respecting their parents. When your children are young, you must teach them Honour, expect, and demand respect and obedience because it will not come on its own later. That is why the scriptures are filled with instructions about training your children and how to teach your children.
